The inappropriate past repairs carried out on the terrace included adding layers of cement concrete, which was causing severe water seepage into the structure.
After manually removing the multiple layers of cement added onto the terrace during the previous repair works, the terrace conservation work started by laying lime concrete mixture comprising of lime mortar and brick aggregate. Traditional organic additives such as Bael Fruit pulp, jaggery are added to make the surface water tight and as per original slopes and details.
After dismantling existing concrete, base layer using lime, surkhi and sand was provided. Finally, 75mm thick red sandstone flooring was provided in the internal chambers.
