The preschool education component was practically absent from the aanganwadis. Initial analysis indicated that the aanganwadi workers were stressed for time and therefore unable to conduct this component. The project therefore appointed community teachers to conduct preschool education. A deeper analysis indicated the absence of a structured curriculum and lack of preparation. The project then proceeded to develop a contextualised curriculum through a participatory process with AKF community teachers and Aanganwadi workers, keeping in mind the space constraint and skills needed in children to make them ready for school.

This curriculum was vetted by an experienced profession of a Central University and tested in all the aanganwadis in Nizamuddin. The aanganwadis now have preschool education that has age and developmentally appropriate activities to engage with children and a theme based curriculum
