In December 2000 the night time illumination was inaugurated. The Oberoi Group funded a carefully designed system with the following features:
- The white lighting aims to enhance the effect of moonlight.
- The cables have all been placed outside the tomb enclosure and are laid underground.
- The light fixtures, kept at a distance of over 100m from the tomb are free standing and not visible from the outer faces of the buildings they stand upon.
- The light fixtures are kept away from the visitor paths thereby causing minimal visual distraction to daytime visitors.
