Various safe and playful spaces like the Children’s park, School Amphitheatre, hole-in-the-wall computer kiosks, aanganwadi or day-care crèches etc. have been created throughout the Basti. These urban services not only provide for an educational and recreational engagement to the children, but since the basti has such dense settlement, these spaces also provide safe-green spaces which are crucial for a child’s growth. The team has considered various issues while planning these initiatives like their placement, use of material and textures, use-pattern, and their sustainability in terms of their community-driven management approach.
